SnoCountry SnoCast: Cool, Dry St. Patrick’s Day Weekend

Beautiful weather is in store for the St. Patrick’s Day weekend as a huge area of high pressure keeps much of the nation dry.

Eastern U.S. & Canada

An ongoing blizzard Thursday will bring whiteout conditions to the Dakotas and far northwest Minnesota. This will surge warmth to the East through Friday. A cold front attached to the storm will bring rain showers to much of the East Friday. Behind the front Saturday, snow showers and a cooler wind can be expected.

From St. Patrick’s Day weekend and forward, the weather conditions will be generally cool, breezy and feature mountain snow showers. Slowly but surely Saturday to Monday we could pick up 3-6” in the Northeast. Tuesday will continue to be cool and sunnier, then another chance of snow Wednesday. This week we love Mount St. Louis Moonstone and Horseshoe in Ontario as well as Whitetail and Giants Ridge.

Western U.S. & Canada

The earlier blizzard (Wednesday-Thursday March 13-14) has left 12-24” in its wake for you to go enjoy.

Some areas have had *too much* snow, leading to high and dangerous avalanche conditions across Colorado. Especially if you are headed into the backcountry, we encourage you to “know before you go” and check the latest on avalanche danger. Light snow of 2-4” will coat the Rockies Thursday, then Friday to Tuesday stays mainly sunny.

A few snow showers will fall in British Columbia Saturday and then possibly more snow for the Sierra Nevada Wednesday. Other than that, enjoy the fresh snow and bluebird conditions throughout the St. Patrick’s Day weekend. This week we love Buttermilk, Powder Mountain, Fernie Alpine and Mt. Hood Meadows.
