Ready for an early ski trip to the mountains? Midwestern skiers don't have to look any further than the Great Lakes states.
Lutsen Mountains, the Heartland's largest ski resort located along the shore of Lake Superior, is opening in less than two weeks with their First Tracks weekend, November 13-15. They will be open for skiing and riding weekends through Thanksgiving and early December, opening daily beginning December 11.
A two-night lift and lodging package is available for those first two weekends from $119 per person, based on quad occupancy
Lutsen will be implementing a daily capacity limit on skier visits this season creating a number of sold-out days. An online calendar highlights these peak days and will be updated throughout the season as availability becomes low, sold out, or additional dates start to reach capacity. Online reservations are strongly recommended and will be necessary for select dates.
The resort has been stockpiling snow they have been making with the early cold weather. Plans call for having runs on Ullr Mountain open as well as a couple on Eagle Mountain with a good snowmaking weather forecast for next week. Moose Mountain is projected to open the following weekend.
From November 25 through December 17 the resort is offering two-night lift and lodging packages from $139 per person, based on quad occupancy. The offer is also good daily when they open for skiing on a daily basis.
Lutsen guarantees that they will have 20 runs open by the first weekend in December, which equals nearly 10 miles of trail. If they fail to meet the goal reservations may be canceled without penalty.
When fully open Lutsen offers 95 runs, the longest two miles, that fall off four mountain tops. The ancient Sawtooth Mountain chain rises over 1,000 feet above Lake Superior, often in sight on many runs. Their season typically runs from early November into mid-April and weekends into May.
