Christmas Holiday Ski Forecast

The holidays are here! For all of you planning to hit the slopes for the Christmas holiday, here’s a look at the forecast and what to expect this year.

The forecast will mainly be nice (...not naughty) across North America. Santa will gift a few areas with new snow, while others enjoy mild temperatures and soft turns on the trails.

Active weather for December 24 and 25 will develop across the Western U.S. Snow is expected from the central Sierra Nevada mountains in California, through the intermountain West and Rockies. The highest peaks of Arizona and New Mexico will also see snow, as colder air filters in through Christmas Eve night. Generally 6-12” will fall for many peaks across the West, with 3-6” at higher bases. Highest totals will fall from the highest peaks of Arizona, through Utah and Colorado.

Meanwhile, in the east, we’ll be storm-free for the holiday, but pleasant temperatures will allow very nice conditions on the slopes from the southern Appalachians to the Great Lakes, to New England. Most will have daytime temperatures in the mid-20s to low 30s on the slopes for Christmas Day, with some milder conditions down the central and southern Appalachians with comfortable turns in the 30s to low 40s.
