Randall, Freeman Head Nomination List for US Team
The US Ski Team has announced the preliminary list of nominated skiers for the 2012-13 cross country season. The nominations include those active athletes who qualified based on published selection criteria. The USSA will announce the actual team roster this fall, naming those athletes who accept the responsibilities of being a part of the U.S. Ski Team and are planning to compete in the 2012-13 season. Team staff will work individually with nominated athletes to provide education on Team responsibilities and programs leading up to the formal Team announcement this fall.
Freeman Takes Season Finale U.S. Title
CRAFTSBURY, VT - Veteran Kris Freeman (Andover, NH) capped off the season with his 15th career U.S. title, winning the 50k mass start in Craftsbury. Freeman battled teammate Tad Elliott (Durango,CO/Ski and Snowboard Club Vail) the entire distance with a mind boggling 32 laps on the 1.5k Craftsbury course, winning by three seconds. Tim Reynolds (Craftsbury, VT/Craftsbury Nordic) took bronze. The race capped Spring Series racing with Craftsbury crews battling springtime weather in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont to put on an amazing week of racing and wrapping up the 2012 season.
Randall Wins 30k U.S. Championship
CRAFTSBURY, VT – Overall World Cup sprint champion Kikkan Randall (Anchorage, AK) proved dominance in her repertoire of disciplines as she won the 30k U.S. Championship in Craftsbury, VT. The win marks Randall's 17th U.S. Championship title and comes as ending punctuation of the most successful season in history for the U.S. women. Teammate Jessie Diggins (Afton, MN), was a mere 1.1 seconds behind Randall at the end of 20 laps around a 1.5k course. U.S. Championships continue tomorrow in Craftsbury with the men's 50k.
