Vonn Headlines USSA Award Winners
PARK CITY, UT – Audi FIS World Cup champion Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO) was honored by the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association with the Beck International Award, the organization’s highest athlete honor. The USSA also recognized longtime race official John Garnsey of Vail/Beaver Creek with its Julius Blegen Award for three decades of service to the sport. The awards were dozens presented May 11 in Park City at the annual USSA Congress at the Park City Marriott.
Gold Pass Goes High Tech To Celebrate 40th
PARK CITY, UT – America’s ultimate ski and snowboarding lift ticket, the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association’s Gold Pass, is going high tech to celebrate its 40th anniversary this coming 2012-13 season. The unique pass, which provides unlimited, transferable access to National Ski Areas Association resorts coast-to-coast, will become the first pass globally to fully integrate each of the industry’s RFID, scanning and other lift access technologies into one pass. The innovative Gold Pass will debut at the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) Convention and Tradeshow May 6-9 in San Antonio and is now available for sale through the USSA with proceeds going to support America’s Olympic skiers and snowboarders.
Eight Inducted into Hall of Fame
SEATTLE, WA – In a night filled with emotion and fond memories, eight legends of skiing were inducted into the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall Fame Saturday as over 600 attended a ceremony in Seattle. Olympic and World Championship medalists Joe Pack and Eva Twardokens headlined eight skiing luminaries who joined the Hall of Fame’s Honor Roll for 2011. Also honored was ski area pioneer, the late Nick Badami, who played a pivotal role with the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association and the Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Games.
