Big Sky Improves Slope Access

America’s biggest skiing resort, Big Sky with 5800 acres and 300 runs tumbling off four mountain peaks, made several improvements this past summer that improved slope access. They open for the season on Thanksgiving Day, November 23.

The array of improvements includes new runs, a new chairlift, and a streamlined rental delivery service that promises faster and easier access to the slopes. They will fit guests with equipment right where they are staying.

The resort added three new glade runs; Oxbow, PB&J Way and Wild Bill. The first one is parallel to the Swift Current chair, the second is accessible from the North Summit Snowfield, and third is off Horseshoe. They also widened Fast Lane, the main artery from Madison base area back to the Mountain Village, improving the flow of the run at crowded times.

Big Sky also added four new carpet lifts, three at Mountain Village base area and one at Madison base area, which will allow easier transition between carpets and transition to chairlifts. They also improved access to Big Sky Sports Demo Center with a complete renovation. That follows last year’s renovation of the sport’s rental shop that also helped create a better flow and access for customer’s picking up their own rental equipment and daily rentals.

Currently you can save up to 30-percent off select condos and homes, and 20-percent through special packages on hotel reservations at the Huntley Lodge, Whitewater Inn, Village Center, Summit at Big Sky, and Shoshone. There are some blackout dates and the offer is based on availability.

So far this season Lone Peak has been covered for a couple of months already. Big Sky got a couple of feet in September and several October storms dumped a couple of feet on snow mid-mountain and over three feet on the upper alpine areas.
